Carrying Parker’s Legacy
Parker Bounds Johnson Foundation was established in 2016 to provide support to families in crisis. Founders, Liz and Dan, strongly believe that wilderness gave them five more precious years with their beloved son. Parker is one of those bright lights among us who battled for his life against depression, anxiety, mental health challenges, substance abuse, addiction, and the probable trauma caused by multiple sports concussion injuries.
After graduating from an excellent wilderness therapy program, Parker told his family, “. . . every kid graduating from high school should go to wilderness. Even adults should go! . . . It saved my life.”
Tragically 5 years later, Parker took his own life to find relief from his suffering at the young age of 23. But in the devastating wake of his death and his families’ profound grief, they were inspired to honor Parker’s legacy and deepest wish by helping struggling young people and their families to find healing and hope. It was in Parker’s heart to always want to help others—especially those less fortunate than he.
During one of their last family Sunday dinners, Parker said, “Wouldn’t it be tight to send just one kid a year to wilderness? . . . Let’s do this. Let’s start a foundation.”
And so Parker Bounds Johnson Foundation was created.
“Wouldn’t it be tight
if we could send
just one kid a year
to wilderness?”
